Hint Hill area— Hillsooro , h'i;!r 1730. home of Col. Earl E. Holmes. During the colonial period "Hillsboro” was a thriving community with mill, store, and stage stop. At the foot of the hill stands a huge sycamore tree, considered one of the oldest in Virginia.
Washington area—“Mountain (Veen”, stone part built circa 1735, home of Mrs. Marieta L. Cheatham.
Sperryville air e a—“Thornton Hill,” built 1756. home of Mrs. W.M. Fletcher. This is one house where it is definitely known that George Washington slept when he visited his cousins here. This room will be on display. “Rosewood”, built 1735, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Estes. Originally one story and a half house, later raised to two full stories. “Apple Tree Cottage” (Old Cooper Shop) (Home of Mr.’ and Mrs. S.E. Hening. This cottage will also be open in the evening from 8:00 to 10:00 featuring informal ooloifial type garden illuminated “O’Learv’s Cabin”, built in 1740. owned by Mrs. J.W. Fletcher. Tine frontier log cabin with wide boards and exposed beaded beams.
Wood ville area—“Stonehaven" built circa 1770, owned bv Mr. and Mrs. George E. Muth. 'Kemper Mansion House”, owned bv Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Jacobs. Interesting period > panelling and exposed beams.
F.T. Valiev area—“Piedmont. Guest House”, built circa 1765. owned by Mr. and Mrs. N.K.G. Tholandi Home of the son of Frank Thornton, original settler of the F.T. Valley.
Tea will be served at “Mountain Green” oVi Sunday, July 28; at “Thornton Hill”, Monday July 29th and at “Stonehaven”. Tuesday Julv 30th. The price for touring each home is 50 cents but a block ticket may be bought for $1.50 which is good for three days and includes each of these home*. Directions for reaching the houses will be clearly posted along the roads. Three places have been set up in the countv as headquarters for the tour where information, maps and pairtehlets may be had. These are: The Remnant Shop. Amissville; Burke’s Store. Woodville; and Estes Log Cabin, Rt. 211. Sperryville.
