Even if you don’t grow apples I hope you will read jt for the situation of our apple growers concerns us all but vitally. As goes Rappahannock’s apple industry so goes your economy whether you be doctor, lawyer, merchant or mechanic/Besides to make sound plans for anything; the first thing one must do, is to “know where we are. . whaf the Situation is.” We can't get from Washington to Sperryville unless we first .know we are in Washington, its as simple as that. .

For sometime the two largest slaughters of Virginia lambs hav#» been complaining about buck lambs and reducing the quality and yield of our lambs.»They have asked ..that the buck lambs be sold separately from the ewe and wtther lambs and the largest buyer of'our * top grade lambs has said that if ' the bucks are hot separated this year he will only buy our lambs when h« can not fill his qhota elsewhere. Their objection to buck lambs ‘is that they yield less, produce lower quality carcasses and require more help on the falling floor thhn ewe and wether lambs.
Long tailed lambs were also objectd to and one packer stated that' at certain times and with some grades the long tailed lambs were as much a problem and hurt the quality as much as the bucks.
At the annual meeting of the Virginia Livestock’ Market Operators, the market operators present unanimously agreed to separate and sell the buck lamfes separate from the ewe and wether lamt* in all grades. The long tailed lambs will not be sold separate this year with the hope that this job will be clone along with the castrating and the percent age. of long tails will be so small that it will not be necessary to -come back in a year or two and ask that, they be sold ^separate. There is still a place and ; heed for more sheep in Rappahan; nock and a quality program will continue to pay the fanner big dividends. ' <
