Bom.in Grerley, Colorado, the 1958 Apple Blossom Grand Marshal played in his High school orchestra and worl&d his way through Denver University by tootling a saxophone. During* the twenties and early thirties he had his own band, touring America. He joined “Major Bowes’ Amateur Hour” in 1935, and for 11 years uncovered talent- and was musical supervisor of the show.*' ' Following the death pf the Major in 1946, Ted took command; He became one of the pioneers in television. first appearing on that medium with The Original Amateur Hour in January, 1958: Today he and the program are seen arid' heard Saturdays from 10 to - 10:30 P. M. over 171 NBC-TV sations coast-to-coast. The Original Amateur Hour has auditioned nearly 900,00 persons at a cost ex**-, ceeding $4,500,000. Many amateurs who first appeared on this program have gone on to success in various phases’of the entertainment world.
