STRAWBERRIES
Early strawberry production— already begun ifl Louisiana, Alabama and Texas, will be up 52% this year over, last year’s short crop, but only about 2% abovethe average, and reports from Louisiana, which furnishes about 85% of die spring crop, say conditions are good.
The mid-spring states, which include Virginia, show 10% less acreage than last year, 3% abdve average. Most of the decrease occurred in California, leading midspring state. Recent floods have hurt the crop in this state, but bow much is not known. Virginia’s acreage is down about 10% from last year’s 3000 acres, and up to now, it looks like Eastern Shore shipments should begin about May 12th, nearly two weeks late. North Carolina will probably begin about the last week of April, over-lapping with us for a couple of weeki Tennessee production will begin about April 21st.
