Livestock fudging Team, were accompanied to Synithfield for a ■“practice judging session by Charlie R. Cooper, Extension 4-H Specialist, and yoyr Assistant County Agent. Ajt Smithfield we ■were guests of Gwaltney Packing Company where the boys judged eight classes of market hogs and had the advantage of hearing John H. Carter, Swine Extension Specialist and representatives of the packing company give their reasons on placing the different classes, after the boys had placed the animals and given their reasons.
Leaving Smithfjeld Monday evening, we drove to Blacksburg and Tuesday and Wednesday we spent judging breeding ewes, fat lambs, market steers and breeding heifers. We arrived back in the county Wednesday evening after a very successful judging workout.
The judging team will c mpete in two judging contests before the National Contest in Chicago, November 27th. The first one will be in Richmond at the Atlantic Rural on September 28th and the second at the Eastern National Livestock Show, November 14th at Timonium, Maryland.
The “Colonial Stores” sponsor the State Livestock Judging Team each year and it is through their donation that makes it possible for the team to compete in these outof-the-state events as well as the
out-of-county prsjctice sessions.
