Y., legislature voted overwhelmingly to authorize a $21 million offering of farmland preservation bonds. The bond sale authority is a key part of a plan to save the eastern Long Island county’s dwindling supply of open farmland. If it succeeds, the project could help solve a growing national problem—and it should be noted that officials in Loudoun County have already indicated an interest in just such an approach as the one being experimented with in Suffolk County, N. Y.
