For the second time in less than three weeks, another Rappahannock. County High School student has been charged with possession of narcotics an school property. A 17-year-old male was found with marijuana by school officials and turned over to the Sheriff’s Office on Friday.
Principal Adam Burket - who only recently took the position this summer - said it is important for the community to know that the school is. “actively pursuing any student who would bring illegal drugs onto school grounds."
Burket also said in an interview Wednesday that he doesn’t believe these incidents are indications of a wider problem and that the drugs found - in both cases marijuana - were a reflection of what is found in the wider community of the county.
He said the school is a microcosm of society, and students have told him that there are still many adults in the county who use illegal drugs including marijuana.
Burket would not comment on whether he is being tougher on drugs than his predecessor; but he did say the school will not tolerate drugs on campus.
