Noted Educator Will Speak Here At Convocation Of H-S College A guest lecturer of the Rich- j mond Area University Center, Dr. j Harry J. Carman, of Columbia ! University, will speak at a Hamp- j den-Sydney College convocation,; Friday, Feb. 20, at 11 a. m. His. subject will be “Youth and the World of Tomorrow." Dr. Carman is well-known in the field of higher education. He was one of the founders of Uie Contemporary Civilization Course i in Columbia College, which has j been influential in changing the 1 character of the first two years of the curriculum in liberal arts colleges in the United States. His keen interest in adult education has been reflected in his close association at various times with Uie educational work of such or ganizations as the American j Manufacturing Company. t li e Standard Oil Company of New | .Jersey, and the New York Adult' Education Council, which the late ; John H. Finley was largely instru mental in organizing. He was a member of the Board of Higher Education of the City of New York for 14 years, during which time he was helpful in selecting the present presidents of Hunter. Brooklyn.
