xne proposed wvy stands at $1.80 for schoola, 45 cents for general fund, and 15 cents, for the new county high school building; setting the total at $2.40. Last year’s tax was $1.75 for schools, 10 cents for general fund, and 15 cents for the reassessment; totaling $2. The 15-cent reassessment levy was automatically dropped.
The increase of 35 cents • in the general fund was occasioned by three reasons: (1) a decrease in the ABC funds coming to the county (ABC funds are distributed at $3 per person, and with the decrease in the county population and increase in the state population, more funds went elsewhere and less to Rappahannock); (2) the general reassessment in the county decreased by approximately $50,000 on the real estate; thus decreasing the amount of taxes at the regular rate; and ($>, the county deficit by June, 195 li will be about $7,000. -It- was stated last year, when the budget for 1950 was considered, that there would be an estimated deficit of $10,000. Some taxpayers present at that time did not think this was true, but others were opposed to allowing the budget to be set at less than wao needed. Jack Miller was one who voiced an opinion that it was bad business to call for less than was needed. However, it was decided; to hold the tax rate as low as possible, and the deficit is there to be made up during the coming “year.
The motion to levy the 51-cents for the new school was made by W. Curtis Campbell, seconded by J. P. Cook. H. B. Wood and Frank Brown Voted' for it, with A. Cv Latham against, and Aylette H. Buckner casting no vote.
The date set for approving the. published tentative budget is Monday, April 9. Reassessment Shows Decrease.

This makes a decrease on real estate of $50,386 in the county,
The board of supervisors recommended E. M. Jones, C. E. Johnson, Jr., and J. D. Keyser to the Circuit Court to compose a board of equalization of real estate assessments. This board will meet on certain specified days to hear any appeals on the reassessment. The reassessment of real estate in the county was completed February 28, 1951.
Regular reports were heard from the county departments of welfare, health, and the home agent. R. Worthington, resident engineer, set the date for hearing on road matters for the board meeting date, April 4. *
The board recommended purchase of material and service of •the state planning commissioner in furnishing county property maps, and the audit of the county books for June, 1951, was authorised.
The amount set for the .welfare department was the same as last year without the proposed increase by the welfare board.
