Wi are living at n time when tile great emphasis is upon power. Expressions such as air power, naval power, atomic power, man power are commonplace. Through these sources of power we are embarked on a program which our National leaders tell us will preserve our democracy—our way of life. Can we, as Christians believe that the material power of our nation and the way we are planning to use that power, will bring the desired result*—Peace? - There is a great fundamental . truth which we must not overlook and it seems to me basic. It is this: When we endeavor to obtain a certain end or objective, that end or objective reached always has in it the qdality of the means we employ. All of history testifies to this great truth in the affairs of men and of nations. How can we obtain the love of oar fellows if, we use unlovely means? Can we have peace at the point of the sword?
As these lines are being written an air raid siTen is sounding. True —local authorities are testing the eiren, hut it has an ominous ring, and unless something happens to change the trend in our world affairs, air raid sirens may sound in earnest in many of our great centers of population. The problem is that we must take “The Way” which we have never fully followed before. If we do not take this, we perish. '
We believe that the people call, ed Christians have the answer. We have the power at our dis_ posal to revolutionize the present —trend. That power is “Spiritual power” generated through prayer.
As Christians, we believe that the greatest and most powerful force in all the world is prayer. Tennyson, it was, who wrote: *<More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of”. Prayer is reality. Prayer is practical and urgent for our day.
If everyone who has named the name of Christ will pray enough and often enough, we can generate more nower than is contained in our stockpile of atomic weapons—more power than'we have in all of pur destructive equipment for defense. *
