Adjust livestock numbers to the available pasture and feed supplies by culling'1 and sealing unprofitable animals. Old ccUvs, poor milkers, off-colored ones, shy breeders, late calvers, those of questionable breeding. Jnd anv that produce calves whjich will grade below medium should be sold immediately. Only] good quality cows will be profitable. Sell steers early as feeder^ or put them in the feed lot now to ease the pressure on pastures. There is good demand now for feeder cattle.
Breeding herds of cattle, hogs and sheep which represent years of work in selection - and breeding should be maintained after the unprofitable ones are removed, even if some feed must be purchased.
If you must sacrifice either cattle or sheen, keep the sheep. A ton of hay will winter a lot qf sheep,
and ijf winter pasture cam be provided, hav supplies will g|o much further. The favorable outlook for lambs and wool will continue to make a well managed flock profitable.
