A new plant growth booster which exerts a remarkable effect on /household .and greenhouse plants and nursery etock will soon reach market as the first product of its kind to be made available to the general public. , . It is being marketed under the name Oibrel by Merck * Co.. Rahway, N. X. in the potassium salt form of gibbereilic acid to formulator-distributors on a nationwide basis. It is expected that formulators' products incorporating the dramatic new compound will be available to the public in the Spring.
Baked on experiments by scientists' and collaborating researchers throughout the country, Oibrel, which is not a fertiliser. greatly improves the growth traits of several ornamental plants. African violets tend to grow more erect and produce a more pointed, attractive leaf. Geraniums, when sprayed young, grow more ra• pidly. The product also initiates growth in holly when the plant is dormant, speeds the growth of lade plants, sedum and peperomia,. and aids in formation o* side shoots in ivy. Only very ' small amounts are required to ( produce its effects.
