This is money used to help certain .'countries maintain bigger def tense forces than they could afford on thejr own. South Korea, Free. China,; Vietham and Turkey would receive 70 per cent of the $835 mi||ion the President asks for this purpose.
There are, also, the various kinds of economic Assistance:
I. .Technical d-operation, or “Point Four,” under which we send technicians abroad to assist other nations in a wide variety of nro>ects. from building dams to killin'' hugs. ($142 million).
2 The technical assistance program of the United Rations ($20 million U. S. contribution).
3. St>ecial assistance which the nresident says is needed to help “maintain political and economic ^ability” in certain countries where we have bases, kbut where
do not support substantial local defense forces, such as Morocco 'and Libya ($212 million).

on of Atpercan States( $1.5 million). > 5. Miscellaneous programs, including the United Nations Children’s Fund, certain refugee proprams, and^the administrative costs of economic aid, including teaching opr employees the languages of the countries in which they are to work. ($106.6 million).
6. The Development Loan • Fund, set up to provide long-term economic assistance with th* hope, at least, that the loans will be repaid.! The fund was capitalized at $625 million, and Congress appropriated $300 million last year. The President wants the full *mount made available.
