Control Month .
The President of the United States, by direction of an Act of Congress, has proclaimed April as CANCER CONTROL MONTH, thereby directing national attention to the number two disease killer in the United States, which took a toll of 250,000 lives last year. Approximately 75,000 of this number died needlessly, only because'the disease was not detected and treated; early enough.
The American Cancer Society, in cooperation with public health, and medical authorities, is seeking ; f to eliminate this tragic waste of life by telling the public the facts of cancer; and by urging health checkups as die best protection against this cruel disease, and inviting the combined efforts of voir unteers, voluntary contributions f and voluntary organizations to. fight it. : ^
I invite the. P«opte Virginia . to join in these efforts by the observance of April as CANCER CONTROL MONTH and by • giving generous support to the American Cancer Society’s annual effort to raise funds vitally, for its prograin of education, research and service.
