This year marks Mr. Rayburn’s 14th year as Speaker of the House. He was elected Speaker on Sept 16, 1940 and, with the exception of the 80th Congress (1947-49) and the 83rd (1953-55), has held that office ever since. > The Speaker it an active fanner and cattleman and maintains a farm in Fannin County, Texas, where his father settled after leaving Tennessee. The long list of Mr. Rayburn’s legislative accomplishments includes the Rural Electrification Act, which has brought electricity to most of the form homes o£ the nation, and of which he and the late George W. Norris, of Nebraska, were' the authors.
