The President of the New Jersey Farm Bureau was quoted as expressing, doubt about, the judgment of farmers' joining a union, because “it is against the law for unions to bargain for prices”. Let us not be too quick to conclude, however, that Mr. Hoffa’s excursion into agricultural organization can be scoffed away. Both employers and independent-minded members of his own union have found that Jimmy Hoffa usually means business.
Wliat changes in farmers' thinking, at least in New Jersey, have permitted Hoffa to stalk out of the truck terminals into a poultrymen's meeting and find a warm welcome ?

Poultrymen have received less than energetic assistance, in many ca-es, from their (Government ini.' their own industry’s efforts to de-; velop and expand overseas markets.
They have seen the (Government index of prices paid by farmers soar 2d points in -even years while prices received by farmers fell 24 points, for a combined adverse change of 46 points. Caught in this squeeze, they have watched helplesslv while certain key industries with what amounted to monopolistic price situations, notably steel, have negotiated political price settlements n which the farmers, and other consumers, have j o voice other than moans of anguish as they try to force their own budgets into balance.
