Continue To Do In 62
During the next few months grain fanners will be urged to “continue to do in ’62 what you’ve begun in ’61,” according to H. S. Barksdale, Chairman Agricultural Stabilization and Conservxation Committee for Rappahannock. Reference is to the 1961 Feed Grain program, which program workers hope to duplicate this year. The advise also is the title of a program leaflet which is being distributed to feed grain growers through the county.
The signup of farmers under the 1962 feed grain program, and also under the Wheat Stabilization program for the spring crop, commenced on February 5 and will continue through March 30. The feed grain program in Virginia for 1962 crops covers com and grain sorghum. The program singup for 1962-chop winter barley was held last fall.
The Chairman listed the following principal features of the 1962 corn and grain sorghum program: (1) Voluntary participation; (2) diversion of not less than 20 per cent of the base acreage of corn and grain surghum (1959-60 average), as adjusted; (3) compliance with the farm’s barley feed grain base; (4) compliance with the corn and grain sorghum base and the barley base for any other farm on which the producer shares in the crops; (5) payments..based on yields and support prices..t be made on acreage diverted from feed grains to soil-conserving uses; (6) advance payments. up to about half of the total amount made at signup time; (7) price support Continued on page five
