Ben Mallory, one of my ex 4-H boys, dropped by the office Saturday. Hadn’t seen him in several years. Ben was one of our Sears Sow Project participants. Stuttered up a storm. Talks without any difficulty at all now. Married and has two children. Congratulations, Ben . . . Mrs. Ben too. Take care of those younguns. Could be I’ll live long enough to have that boy in 4-H one of these days.
Learned last week Brucie and Charlie are a couple more of my broadcast fans. Appreciate having listeners. Incidentally WCVA went on a 1000 watts Feb. 1st., which should mean better coverage in Rappahannock. Ever listen to your County Agent on Tuesday’s Farm and Home Program? Suggested topics always welcomed.
Interested in trees. Know the Ginko? Saw a couple growing in front of the Anne Wingfield school in Culpeper last summer and was attracted by its foliage and habits of growth. USDA Yearbook on Trees includes it among the exotic tree list. Described as a living fossil ... a single sped of a single genus. Discovered in China and grown in gardens of ancierit emperors of Japan.
Rappahannock Angus Feeder Calf Association held their annual meeting last Friday night with around 38 present to enjoy the yummy meal prepared by t!he ladies of the Episcopal Church. Since there aren’t any by laws, since “Missie” hasn’t been able to put him to work, since they like the job he has done, members reelected Rodes Brown as their president; Jim Yates, Vice President, Bill Miller, Secretary and Treasurer. New was the election of three directors: Ned Johnson, Ike Parrish and P. T. Fitzhugh.
Allen Randolph, - Exec. Secretary of the Virginia Beef Cattlemen's Association as guest speaker, cautioned members not to dislocate their shoulders in patting themselves on the back for the fine product they are producing plus the fine job they are doing in putting on a sale.
He gave your County Agent a hyd time for stating in his letter of invitation to be guest speaker “to drop by the house to freshen up before the meeting” but .not saying a darn word about spending the night especially with/ this Alaskan weather we are having.
