Richmond, Va.—Asking for careful observance of traffic rules during Labor Day weekend, Col. C. W. Woodson, Jr., Chairman of the Governor’s Highway Safety Committee and Superintendent of State Police, today cited the 1961 Labor Day experience as a warning. .
The weekend, costing 16 lives, was the worst since that of 1955 which saw 17 deaths. Nine people were killed on Saturday. There were 12 fatal crashes, of which three killed one pedestrian each.
