Madison Drag Race

Hundreds of sporting enthusiasts will turn out Saturday, November 26 for the Madison County Wildlife Association annual Foxhound Drag Race to be held at the Kelso farm, just off the Hoover Road east of Haywood. Owners are requested to have their hounds on the grounds by 9 a.m. for entering and numbering. Membership and entry fees will be the usual $1.00 each. The drag race will start promptly at 10 a.m. over a five mile course. The beautiful rolling terrain provides excellent viewing of most of the race and riders who follow the hounds. Judges will be at vantage points along the course to record the leading hound numbers and at the finish which will be at the L. George farm. Here a horn blowing contest will also be held, winners announced and prizes awarded. As an added attraction a red fox will be released after the hounds running in the face have had a chance to catch their wind. The turnout will be in full view of spectators. This always provides exciting moments. Seeing the fox scamper for cover across the open fields, followed in a few minutes by the casting of hounds are both blood tlnglers. And Just for those who don't already know; you’d better not overstuff your tummies too much on Thanksgiving Day. Lawton, Frances and J a ck Blankenbaker will be hosts to a sumptuous meal, to be served at their home, which is really done as only those Madlsonians can do.
