The Americas Cup of Polo returns to Morven Park in Leesburg this weekend, with a full slate of activities Friday night and a field match plus entertainment Saturday afternoon.
Last year, the inaugural America s Cup featured a U.S. polo team feeing a British team. The event attracted nearly 5,000 spectators. The day-long affair included a polo match, catered food and evening concert rock group Journey.
Although the U.S. team lost 7-3, a tradition was bom. This Saturday the same U.S. team will fece Italy in a widely publicized charity match.
Co-chairs Michaele and Tareq Salahi of Hume say they expect a similar turnout this year. Proceeds benefit Journey For The Cure.

“Weve got a great match planned,” he said at a warm-up practice at Morven last week. “The game will be exciting, but the other events surrounding the polo game are incredible.”
Additions to this year’s Cup include a fashion show Friday night, featuring US. and Italian designers. There will be a wine tasting and competition, a performance by the Gipsy Kings and a culinary contest between local Italian and U.S. chefs.
Saturday features include a parachute demo by Blackwater, a concert by Huey Lewis and the News, fireworks, and, of course, the polo game.
