These words by Rune'la Martin echo the theme of the' Blue* Ridge Chorale Spring Concert, to be pt'rfbrmexi at The Theatre at Washington on Friday. May 9, at 8 p.m., under the direction of Virginia Erwin. Though heroes come in all shapes and sizes, the focus will be on heroes of war Short accounts of three local heroes of three different wars will be narrated by Jon Krawchuck from Channel 21 TV
“As the daughter of a WWll veteran and the wife of a Vietnam veteran. 1 have a profound respect for the patriotism and service exhibited by our soldiers and their families. I thought it appropriate that our concert feature a remembrance of special soldiers from the Culpeper and Rappahannock areas. Our concert of sacred and patriotic music is meant to honor them, and to inspire' us all to be grateful for their example's of courage and sacrifice,” noted Virginia Kwin.
The first part of the program will feature' Franz Schube'rts “Mass in Cl,” one of the tmesures of e'urlv 19th century choral music. In the sevond part the Chorale will perform parts of Randall Thompson’s Testament of Fivedom” along with wellleivexi traditional and patriotic songs, and an exquisite “Eyrie'" bv Re'ne Clause'n. composexi as a response to the horror of 9/11. Charlie' Gilmer will accompany the Chorale* on the piano, and there* will be a string duo.
The program will be* repeated on Sunday, May 11. at 4 p.m.. at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Culpe'pe*r.
