I don't mind saying right here that in some respects we were a mighty sight stronger than the Bostons. It was their team work that put them in the front. So far they seemed to be about the only club In the country that realized the value of good team work in winning a championship. If more time and attention had been given to this vital point I feel certain that the Athletics would have topped the list that year. At the very first game we played with them I got wise to their strength and our weakness, and I made up my mind that if ever I got control of a nine I would make team work a feature. I didn't forget it either when I reached the managerial stage of my career.
