The first games I played with the Athletics were with the Baltimores, and I remember that our fielders didn't have a picnic by any means. The way those Maryland boys stood up to the racket made an Impression on me that I have never forgotten. At the close of the first game the score stood 34 to 19 in our favor and if there was any muscle In my make-up that didn't get into action on that occasion I have yet to learn its name and location. And all that was in spite of the faot that the ball was a "dead" one.
