that I should like to play ball every day in the'week before such a crowd —after all, there something mighty stimulating in a bunch of good, double-lung-powered American rooters— but it was a relief to strike such a well-behaved crowd for a change. First, I though it was all becau&e they didn't get on to the American game and were afraid they might let themselves loose in the wrong places. I expected that when we reached the cricket end of the program they would warm up a little. They didn't that was the English way of doing it, and they didn't know any other.
