Stanley, con gressman representing the Fifth Virginia district, started the ball rolling last Thurs day when he announced his candidacy for governor and his resignation as congress man. effective February State Senator ( harlcs R. Fenwick followed close behind making bis announc.ement Friday. \V. Rus sell Hatchett. Virginia Beach real estate and insurance executive, joined the pros pective candidates bv announcing on Mon day morning. The list is probably not yet complete, unless Attorney General J. Lind say Almond has changed his mind. He promised early in January that he would have an announcement shortly. There will be more probably—the more the merrier. Those who love politics and political ac tivities are assured a hot time come July when the Democratic primary will he held. So far no anti- Truman Democrat has come forward, or any pro-Truman Democrat. Congressman Stanley ostensibly voted for Stevenson, but did not support the Demo cratic National Ticket with any enthusi asm. Senator Fenwick supported the ticket and did some work for it with a degree of enthusiasm. Both arc identified with the dominant Democratic organization in Vir ginia and both have a record of long serv ice in governmental affairs in Virginia. If Mr. Almoin! does not announce the Demo crat- may be called upon to choose between these two stalwarts of the dominant wing.
