Babson Discusses 1953 Dilemmas Washington. D. C.—Another inauguartion is over. Dwight Eis enhower is now President of the world’s most powerful nation. He is a man of sterling character, tremendous energy and marvelous contacts. So far as it is possible in a Democracy, he will be a great President. But ’ Democracy" is a ! synonym for "Dilemma ". Hence, before rushing to expand plants or buy stocks, it is well to con sider at least five Dilemmas which we must face in 1953. KOREA—DILEMMA No. 1 The American people want their sons back from Korea, and. at the same time, don't want Ko rea lo fall into Communist hands. This is a Dilemma with which Mr. Truman and his military aids i have honestly struggled. The promise of Ike to visit Korea and try to accomplish the impossible was a great factor in electing him. Will people turn against him when he reports that 1953 will see no solution to this Dilemma, not withstanding his hopefulness? COMMI'NISM—DILEMMA No. 2 The new President this week reiterated his determination to stop Russia’s spread of Commun ism But he knows that Commun ism is not confined to Russia, tt is the name for a world revolu tionary movement of billions of unhappy people. Russia has seized and capitilaized this great social tidal wave: while the United Sta tes has taken the side of the con servative owners of property and tried to check it. Eisenhower must be sympathetic with these down trodden races, but he knows also it lie changes our present policy lie would be cursed as sympathe tic to Communism. This is Dilem ma No. 2 which he must face in 1 9.V3
