According to District Forester ' D. G. Wilfong, Jh, there were 283 forest fires reported in 1954 in1 the Northern Piedmont District. This Virginia Forest Service District follows the Blue Ridge Mts. from the Potomac River to the Janies River and contains sixteen counties. ■ " .
