Dies In Florida
Mrt. Elizabeth Smith Durant, widow of J. G. Durant, died Friday, February 17 while visiting lier son, John Griffith Durant at his home-in Pompano Beach, Fla. Mr*. Durant had been in declining health.for some timeMrs.
Durant was bom some 80 years ago at Clover Hill in Rappahannock, a daughter of Hugh Smith and Elizabeth O’Bannon .Smith . She made her home in the, county thruout her life. , Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Fairview Cemeteiy in Culpeper with the ftev. Mr. Peterson and the Rev. Dave Lewis presiding.
Active pall bearers- at the last rites were: C. F. Yates, Herbert H*ash, Frank Bennett, Jr., R. M. Menefee, William S m i t h, Jr. George Beard, W. A. Miller and John Lee Durant. Surviving Mrs. Durant are two sons, John G., Jr. of Florida and Oliver Durant, of Culpeper; three sisters, Mrs. Carroll Menefee of Sperryville, Mrs. Frank Bennett, of Culpeper and Mrs. Corrie Eastham of San' Antonio, Texas also three brothers, Walter O’Bannon Smith, of Spokane, Washington. William J. Smith, of Culp e p e r and Cornelius Smith of Hampton.

The Slate Mills Home Demonstration Club wil held their regfvkar monthly meeting Monday ^evening Feb. 27 at 7:30 p. m. at the home of Mrs. Sampson Fender. The subject of the meeting “Making Lamp Shades”. Two of the ^members who attended the Feb. • meeting at Washington, will give ‘the demonstration.
The Slate Mills Baptist Missionary Society met Wednesday evening Feb. 15 at the church.
