Warrenton >

Joyce Walter and Henry Zinn represented RCHS at a discusson to promote Safe Driving in Warrenton, Va., on Friday February 10th. This meeting was sponsor-^ ed by the Home Demonstration Clubs of Northern Virginia. Mrs. Robertson, Mr. Taylor and Sgt. Benton led the panel talks, from which a number of worthwhile facts were disclosed. Our representatives learned that Delaware is the only state that has a driving course in every school. Virginia has 417 high schools; 216 of / these have a course in studying about safe driving while 113 have a behind-thc-wheel course. N

Boys have more accidents and are more reckless than girls; therefore, insurance rates for boys under 25 years of age are 50% more than the normal rate. Beginning February 1, 1956 boys who have studied driving in schools will get a 5% deduction from the 50%and if they have had both the study and behind-the-wheel course, they will have 10% deducted from the 50%.

The courses include . 30 classroom hours of study and 6 hours behind-the-wheel to get a half credit toward high school graduation.

Although some RCHS pupils are receiving classroom instruction in safe driving, we would like to have the complete course next year if possible.
