Last week, the House of Representatives passed flie Department of Defense Appropiation Bill for the fiscal year beginning July 1. It provides $33,635,000,000. This is approximately $513,000,000 less than President Eisenhower requested in his budget message in January.
It was explained that about half of the apparent saving was essentially a bookkeeping transaction, and the rest was made possible by changed calculations and requirements since the Budget was sent to Congress.
