HOGS
Gradual improvement leading up to the summer peak in July is the hog outlook.
Supplies are showing normal declines 2% in the 12 major markets last week, although they are still about 12% above last year. Prices are running accordingly, about $2.0 below last year, same week.
Federally inspected slaughter which picked up a couple of weeks back, resumed the normal downward trend last week, and is expected to contnue down well into summer.
Western markets picked up a dollar last week to top at $16.25. In Virginia, Richmond yards increased 50c at $16-$16.25. Auction markets averaged 30c lower at $15.50, and Smithfield-Suffolk market was low for the state
