The Donkey Baseball Game (or circus) played Monday night at Moffett’s Field was what it was advertised to be—hilarious entertainment.
It was the same Donkey outfit that drew 15,000 people in Griffith’s Stadium, Washington, D. C. for the Crippled Children’s Hospital when Arthur Godfrey was one of the chief promoters.
The Washington Volunteer Fire Co. is to be congratulated on acquiring such fine entertainment. $74.70 was taken in at the gate, of which the Fire Co. received $32.40, “Believe It Or Not”
Those riding the donkeys carried no “hickory persuaders”, whenever they (the donkeys) refused to budge, all the umpire had to do was wave a shiny “magic wand” and they kicked up their heels and performed like the professionals which they really are especially “Dagwood” and “Dynamite” who ran bases.
It was learned that the "Magic Wand” held small electric batteries and was called a “hot shot”. Not once did the umpire touch a donkey, all that was necessary was for it to see the persuader, proving in true what is generally believed about donkeys that they have a tough hide and a short memory.
