Brucellosis Test

The state veterinarian's office has declared Rappahannock under area test for the control of bovine brucellosis. The test of Rappahannock cattle (all breeding cat- * tie incuding bulls) for. brucellosis (Bang’s disease) in the last several years, as elsewhere in'the state has proceeded to the point where it is beleived that a concentrated effort by all interested'parties can. ultimately eradicate the disease form Rappahannock, Virginia and the United States. The area testing nrogram was designed to accom'-'Ish this eradication. Sponsorship of the area test for, con' M of brucellosis in Rappahannr originated with the directors of p'T Countv Farm Bureau organization and the Angus Feeder Calf producers. At their requests Dr. R. f i. Freel of the state veterinarian’s office met with and explained the program to our Board of Supervisors at their April , meeting. -
The Farm Bureau and the Angus Feeder Calf groups each do-, nated $75.00 to be awarded to the Volunteer Fire Companies, ($100 00 to first and $50.00 to second) whose - district tests the highest percentage of cows during _ rite next six months.* Since Hawthorne district has no volunteer fire company, and is served bv the Sperrvville men, this district is combined with Piedmont in so far as the cow testing contest is concerner.
What Is An Area Testing Program?
It is the application of a brucellosis eradication program to all catfle'in the area.
For the purpose of this program an area mav consist of one of morecounties. When all areas in - the state have met the renuirements for and are designated as ModifiedCertified Brucellosis Free, the entire state is so designated. How Does It Operatef
