Two Local Boys Will
Attend Forest Camp
Maurice Butler of Boston and Guy Standish of Castleton have been awarded a week’s scholarship to the twelfth annual forestry camp to be held at Holiday Lake. Chief Forest Warden, Raymond M. Johnson of Rappahannock County announced today that Butler and Standish are two of 100 boys who will attend the forestry camp in Appomattox County at the Buckingham-Appomattox State Forest June 24th to June 29th. Johnson said 100 boys from Virginia are selected each year for this camp from over 300 applicants. Winners of these scholarships are boys who show an interest in forestry and allied conservation work, and boys who have undertaken forestry projects of their own in tree planting, forest management or forest fire prevention and suppression work. Classes will be taught by trained foresters and will include Timber Harvesting, Fire Control, Cruising and Estimating, Game Management, Area Surveying, Tree Planting, and Tree Identification. Recreation and athletics will be directed by a qualified director and a Red Cross life guard. Included will be swimming, softball, volley ball, and horseshoe pitching.
The forestry camp is under the supervision of the Virginia Division of Forestry and sponsored by the pulp and paper companies in Virginia, who are members of the Southern Pulpwood Conservation Association,
Wbpnf Referendum

The County ASC Office mailed the 1958 wheat allotment notices last week to Rappahannock County farm operators. Farmers may vot*. in the referendum on June 20, 1957 at the County ASC office from 8 si.m. to 5 p.m.
The voting place will be under the supervision of a referendum committee, consisting of the county ASC committee. The referendum committee will act as election iudges and are empowered to challenge any ballots where there is any question as to eligibility vote.
Farmers are urged to vote.
