Plan on egg prices declining for the next week v or two and probably for thb balance of the year.
Prices have been erratic lately as a big crop ctf replacement pullets brought a flood of medium eggs to markpt. v
But in a few weeks now, these birds will be producing large eggs, adding to .the supply from older hens. And right behind them, will ,be even more pullets to boost supplies of mediums. ^Priee declines will probably be bifeger for large eggs. The spread, between Grade A large and Grade A mediums in Virginia last week was a whopping 15-16 cents. Mediums will probably decline, but not as much, . The number? of layers in the nation October 1 was less than onehalf of one per cent below last year but it will go above a year ago from now on. And, a large proportion are pullets, which means more eggs per hen. /' »
If you am thinking about going into the egg business, make sure you have a stead/ market and be conservative in your financing.
For the first four months of next year, the price of Grade A large eggs in Virginia will probably be under 35 cents, based on indicated increases in production.
