Mrs. Hill Carter Lucas, wife of Mr. Robert Desha Lucas, died Wednesday, May|6, 1959 in Richmond, Virginia, ifter a short illness. 1": • ■
Mrs. Lucas was the daughter of the late French Pendleton Carter, and his wife, Judith Miller Carter and was born at “Tranquility”, Washington, Va., April 21, 1885. She was educated in private schools in Rappahannock and at Mary Baldwin College, j Staunton. Va. She was a member of the faculty' of Chatham Episcopal Institute before her'marriage. For the past 35 •years her home has been in Richmond.
She is survived by her husband at home; one daugher, Miss Judith Carter Lucas, University of Chicago and two sons, Robert Desha Lucas. Jr. of Norfolk, Va. and Jo Desha Lucas of the University of Chicago and four grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Vincent Smith, Yonkers, N. Y. and Mrs. William F. Moffett, Washington, Va. and one brother, Senator Curry Carter of Staunton, Va.
