The North Piedmont District, which includes Rappahannock lost fewer trees than most districts, 22% between 1949 and 1956 and 49% since 1937. The two northern districts in 1956 had 52% of 42% in 1937. By 1956 Rappar h an nock had ‘come up’ to be included in the four leading counties in number of apple trees: Frederick, Clark, Rappahannock and Shenandoah.—all in the northern districts.
