4-H*er8 Attend Camp
Near Strasburg
Two weeks ago, thirty-two Rappahannock 4-H’ers spent a week at Powell’s Fort Valley along with club members from Clarke and Loudoun counties. A total of one hundred and thirty-two campers were divided into three tribes the first evening. Francis Updike was elected “Big Chief” representing the three tribes and Sally Latham was elected as “lesser chief" of the Blackfeet tribe. The other two tribes, of which some Rappahannock 4-H'ers were members, were the Cheyenes and the Shawnees.
Craft, recreation and entomology classes were held in the morning, while soft ball, volley ball and g swimming made up the afternoon program. In the evening, Vesper Services were held followed by reeeradon and camp fire. At the camp fire the three tribes each put on skits displaying their individual tribal talents.
Friday evening the program closed with a candle light service.
