Agriculture Census
Appointment of Henry C. Witten, Culpeper, Virgihia as a crew leader for the 1959 Census of Agriculture was announced today by Field Director John G. Gibson of the Census Bureau’s regional office at Philadelphia. I
Mr. Witten will direct a force of census takers who will canvas all farms in Rappahannock and Culpeper Counties. Before assuming hi post, he will go to Charlottesville, Vt Wheie he will receive five days of training by a member of the Census Bureau’s staff. Topics to be covered include procedures for recruiting of census takers, census taker training, canvassing methods, preparation and submission of reportsj, and thte supervision of census takers to insure a complete and accurate count.
The crew leader is one of the key people in the fijeld operations of the Census of Agriculture. It is his responsibility to recruit and
train the census takers and supervise their work plaiji and allocate work assignments; peview the work of the census takers and take remedial action where necessary, and to conduct difficult interviews. W
