There is some underlying strength in the overall supply and demand picture for eggs, but temporary factors are likely to keep the price unsettled for the next two or three weeks.
The New York market which sets the pattern for egg prices across the nation, has been depressed under the combination of the dock strike, which cut off foreign shipments and purchases by ships themselves, and heavy shipments from the South looking for a market.
The steel strike has also had a depressing effect on consumption at the same time that warm weather has held production up in most heavy producing areas.
