Weather prophets and Fall Color-forecasters are looking for a gigantic doghouse large enough to hold them all. As the fall foliage persists in remaining a bright summery green, the shade of scarlet of the Forecasters’ embarassed countenances deepens.
According to Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins of Shenandoah National Park, the climatic conditions have persisted in their stubbornness. Every time the elements necessary to produce fall color have been favorable, Mother Nature showed her obstinance by cancelling out what had been accomplished.
A cool spell in mid-September started the usual changes about on schedule. Then came the driving rains of hurricane Gracie that whipped off all the leaves that had dared to change so soon. This badly needed rain revived the remaining green foliage that had been wilting from a month-long drought.
