Miss Anne Dwyer of Sperryville, a Baptist Missionary who recently returned from Gaza, Egypt, spoke Sunday, November 29, at the Baptist Church in Amissville. '
Miss Dwyer dressed in native clothes, explained her work at the Baptist hospital there. She illustrated her talk with slides of Gaza and Lebanon.
The Gaza Strip is only five miles wide and twenty-five miles long and has a population of over 300,000 people. Many of this number are Arab refugees who live in small closely packed houses with as many as twelve people to a room. Other inhabitants are die Bedouins who are a nomadic people living in camel hair tents in die desert, tending herds of goats.
Most construction in that country is done with mud and stone, since trees are a very rare except for the date palms.
Food is seasonal and in eggplant season you eat eggplant; in watermelon season watermelon* etc, however, a variety of most delicious fruits are available.
Among the curias Miss Dwyer brought with her. were pieces of the beautiful embroidery and needlework for which the women are famous.
