Poor Rappahannock
I have heard of having so much money you “didn’t know what to do with it,” but the situation in the "poor” county of Rappahannock is quite the reverse. The governing body has such a time with what little bit they have, that they keep the State Compensation Board busy managing it for them.
As far as the county payroll goes, it’s worse than dogs with a bone; just grab and growl. But of course, it depends upon who “man’s beat frifcnd” is, which way the bone is tossed.
Seems like a good idea would be to equalize salaries according to the competence and efficency of the employee; maybe switching assistants would prove even more porfitable.
In my estimation, it would be a good policy to bury the hatchet; cut out the childishness; forget old personal grudges; bring the county business to the Board meetings instead of to a "clique”; leave off the pressure and let each member vote as he sees fit for the people he represents; try to operate and co-operate for the good of the county and citizens therein.
