The drive to Chicago accompanying the State 4-H Livestock Judging Team, was a very interesting as well as and exciting trip for everyone. On the trip to Chicago we stopped at Ohio State University and four farms, judging a total of twenty-one classes of cattle, sheep and hogs, in preps' aration for die National Judging Contest held in conjunction with the International Livestock Exposition.
The contest was held the day after Thanksgiving with our Rappahannock 4-H’ers, Randall and Francis Updike, judging three classes of cattle, two classes of sheep, and three classes of hogs. Oral reasons were given on two classes of cattle and one each on sheep and hogs, The other 4-H members of the team were Donald Brill of Clarke County and Dickie Shelburn of Montgomery was designated as the alternate. __
Our Virginia Team placed sixth (the paper was misinformed last week) out of twenty-nine state teams competing, which made me very proud indeed. Francis Updike tied for third place individual in the judging of all classes which involved placing over eighty-four different team members in the contest. Francis tied for second place individual in the judging of hogs and tied for fifth place in judging of sheep. The team placed second
