The Board of Supervisors meeting was duly covered in last weeks paper as far as minutes of the meeting go. Breaking it down and looking at the action taken it appears extremely cut and dried as voting intimated . .
Some officials of the county have been very interested, as anyone would expect them to be, in a retirement plan, which seems deserving after a person has made service to the county his life’s work. A sum of $890.83 would put into effect that plan for the past 15 years, according to a survey of anticipated costs u«der Virginia Supplemental Retirement System. This matter is again “on the shelf’ for future consideration. The Board was addressed on this subject at the meeting last week so perhaps some direct action will result.
On the other hand, the Board, without a word to the Clerk of the County, raises the salary of his. assistant ,who he himself hires and is paid with county funds, $450 per year and reduces the salary of his part time help from $1200 to $650. Where is he going to find someone who will do $1200 worth of work for $650? i
Next a motion is made to go before the State Compensation Board in Richmond, (and thqr were very careful who they sent tp represent them) to request anrequaliaation of the salaritt of the**s»stant to - the Treasurer and Commissioner of Revenue’s assistant. The Commissioner of Revenue; and assistant’s salary were set no longer ago than May 19 by three*judges as a result of the Commissioner appealing a decision made by the Board and Compensation Board. Will this equalization call for another court case with added expense to the county? Well it’s just like a see-saw, up and down ; somebody’s being “taken for a ride”. t \ -
