Progress is wonderful; feat of science frightening.

Amazement best describes what I felt Sunday a week ago when I toured the Dulles International Airport, now under ocnstruction at Chantilly, though I have paid occasional visits there since the first tree was cut as construction began.

It is amazing to see a vast sea of concrete laid in the spots where you used to visit neighbors and play with youngsters your age. I was a native of Fairfax County and the airfield is located just about three miles from my home there. As a matter of fact the back part of the farms which belong to two of my brothers-in-law and sisters were acquired by the Federal Government for the airport.

One can hardly describe the changes made there: where there was a field of corn, a few wooded acres, a large fish pond, houses, large and small, hills and creeks..— there are now miles of runways, taxi strips and a huge terminal building taking shape with acres of black topped parking facilities.

As we neared the terminal building to look around, a guard told us that we could look but could not go inside. I glanced at his sleeve patch which said lEagle Detective Agency and then at his bar pin bearing his name which was George R. Jenkins. He looked familiar and upon asking if he was related to the Rappahannock Jenkins, I realized that the name had buffaloed me because up here we call him Raymond. Yes it was Rappahannock Raymond, son of Mr. and Mrs. George VV. Jenkins in F.T. Valley. His wife is the former Elizabeth Verner of Washington. Mrs. Verner is staying in Manassas with them since her release from the hospital and it was good to hear first-hand that she is getting along very well.

From there we drove around the runways, up and down, for mile, ard headed to the place where the mobile lounge - was
