OBITUARIES

D. C. Updike

David Cleveland Updike, longtime merchant and funeral director of Washington, Va., died Friday, April 20, in Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal, following a sudden illntss. He was 77.

A native of Rappahannock County and son of the late John Henry Updike and Annie Kibler. his wife, he was a member of Washington Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Margaret Partlow; one daughter, Mrs. P. W. Scudere, two sons, H. Taylor Updike and Virgil R. Updike, and three grandchildren, all of Washington. Va.; one sister, Mrs. Cary Fox of Brandy Station; seven brothers, Gilbert, llyrd, Ernest and John Updike, all of Washington, Va., A. P. Updike of Washington, D. C., Lewis Updike of Front Royal, and Roland Updike of Culpeper. A funeral service was held Sunday, April 22, from the graveside in Washington Masonic Cemetery. His pastor, the Rev.
