Held Conference
This past week, the Third
ennual Conference of the irginia Reading Association Was held in Richmond. From its beginning jia^t three short years WWkthii »—nhi»inn»ia giiwn^o a present membership in excess o( 600 educators across the State. This is significant for it indicates a mounted and determined attempt by educators to solve the problem of many “non-readers” in the public schools.
Among the speakers at this Conference were Seigfried Engleman, who has recently authored a “Distar” Reading Skills Program for Science Research Associates, and Dr. Albert Harris, Professor at City University of New York, who has authored such books as “How to Increase Reading Ability”, and “Effective Teaching of Reading.” Other authorities reported on the latest research in the teaching of reading.
Local educators who attended the conference in Richmond this past weekend included: Kenneth W. Stanley, and Frank J. Wool, both of whom are Supervisors in the Warren-Rappahannock Public Schools, and Wanda Grove, Charlotte Johns and Walter Mallory who are involved with the teaching of English and Reading in Warren County High School, Warren County Intermediate School, and Rappahannock County High School.
