Subadult males moved more frequently and at greater distances from their birthsites than females or any other age class of squirrels. With the exception of a probable movement oi squirrels away from the study area in 1960 and 1961 there was no appreciable annual reshuffling of the population.
ANOTHER interesting study conducted by the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station of the U.S Forest Service found thai
in a two acre enclosure, a population density of five to six squirrels per acre didn’t seem to change the reproductive behavior or productivity of the squirrels.
But at population levels above six squirrels per acre, the squirrels were less tolerant of each other and reproduction seemed to decline. □
